In 2021 I found out my first nephew was on the way. When trying to find a gift suitable for the new baby I remembered the knit blanket that my great aunt had made for me and how I carried it, and her love, with me. I thought of the hand-sewn doll clothes from my Grandma, and the various quilts I had been given by the important women in my life; each gift crafted with love and care. Many of these gifts are still with me today, and have travelled with me during each stage of my life and into each new home reminding me that I am loved. I wanted to be able to give my nephew something that told him he was loved and always would be. I learned to crochet; and I made my first baby blanket. In December of that year, I had the incredible experience of wrapping him up in a blanket made with love and holding him tight. Our family has grown even more since then, and I have continued the tradition of hand crafting a blanket for each new addition.

I started Crochet by Valery in the beginning of 2023 with the intention of crocheting gifts with care, so that others would have the opportunity to show the people in their life that they are loved and always will be.
